What aura points are
Aura points are a joke point system based on how a person's "aura" goes up or down: certain actions, behaviors or traits add aura and others subtract it. They work like a video game score and almost always follow a template: "How many aura points did I lose when…".
- What they are: an internet joke that treats aura like a score, according to Know Your Meme.
- Typical template: "How many aura points did I lose when X?", or a sentence with a number in parentheses, like "(-1000 aura points)".
- Where it came from: the "The Most Amount of Aura I’ve Used on a Level 1" meme, which already treated aura like a video game score.
- When: it trended on TikTok and X in 2024, building on the virality of the word "aura".
Before the points: the "level 1" meme
In April 2024 a TikTok trend had people "using their aura" on someone inferior, called a "pawn", "crook" or "low vibration being". It was shown with a hand held up to say "stop" or a kiss on the forehead.

How to read (and write) an aura points joke
The joke works because the number is absurd and the cause is tiny or very specific. There is no official scale: the points are made up and exaggerated on purpose.
